Hostal Empúries is a four-star hotel located in the heart of the Costa Brava, in the town of L’Escala. Its prime location, combined with the quality of its facilities and services, has positioned this establishment as a national and international model.
The origin of the hotel dates to 1907, when the first building, baptized Villa Teresita, was constructed. It served as accommodation for the first archaeologists who, led by Puig i Cadafalch, undertook the excavation and recovery of the remains of the Greco-Roman site of Empúries. Since then, the hotel has become a model as a precursor of tourism in the area, even before it was coined with the term Costa Brava.
Since its initial construction in 1907, the hotel has undergone continuous evolution. In recent years, it has undergone various improvement and expansion renovations, enabling Hostal Empúries to operate year-round. The establishment places a strong emphasis on utilizing advanced technologies to ensure the utmost comfort for its guests while remaining committed to sustainability.
The hotel had a heterogeneous installation comprising a central IP system based on free software, along with a mix of IP and analog terminals rented from a communications operator. The high number of incidents and the challenge of scaling the solution to meet the growing needs were the decisive factors in considering the implementation of a new communications solution.
The solution for the hotel was based on the installation of a proprietary solution, which does not involve a pay-per-use model.
After a thorough evaluation process of the various options available in the market, Hostal Empúries chose Innovaphone’s IP phone and Unified Communications solution.
The reasons that led them to rely on the solution from the German manufacturer Innovaphone were its technological expertise as a VoIP manufacturer, scalability, a comprehensive portfolio of products, and a significant cost savings compared to the previous solution.
The communication project implemented in Hostal Empúries is based on the installation of the Innovaphone IP0011 communications center, which serves as the central PBX for the entire system. Additionally, a virtualized environment has been set up within the client’s infrastructure, hosting a central IPVA that functions as a Turn Server and Reverse Proxy. This configuration allows for extensions to be utilized outside the physical premises of the hotel, offering flexibility for future expansion if required.
Regarding the terminals, a high-end IP232 terminal with extension modules for favorites has been installed at the hotel reception desk. Additionally, a set of IP111 phones has been distributed across various areas of the hotel such as administration, maintenance, restaurant, warehouse, etc. To make use of the existing analog phones in certain rooms, Innovaphone IP29 analog adapters have been installed.
Finally, for mobile communication within the hotel, Innovaphone’s MyPBX application has been utilized. This application enables the use of Android or iOS-based cell phones as extensions of the central installation. The cell phones connect to the hotel’s Wi-Fi network to maintain a constant connection.
The hotel has been operational 100% of the time, without any interruption of service.
The hotel also required an efficient phone billing system to facilitate the invoicing of all the guest-generated traffic. For this purpose, the decision was made to implement Halfway, the phone billing system developed by Mediterranean Consulting, which seamlessly integrates with Innovaphone. In this case, the PMS to be integrated was TESIPRO. With the implementation of the phone billing system, all calls made by guests are automatically priced based on the hotel’s configuration and integrated with the TESIPRO PMS, eliminating the need for manual invoicing of phone services.
Communicating with the reception desk, requesting various services, defining presence status, silencing the phone, or answering external calls are just a few examples of what guests can do using the function keys on their room telephones’ display. Additionally, the reception stations are equipped with high-end IP232 model terminals. All devices have low power consumption, support for STUN, TURN, ICE, and feature “anywhere Workplace” functionalities.
