Lacoste offers a complete range of products, including clothing, footwear, leather goods, fragrances, eyewear, watches, underwear, and home textiles, all of which meet the brand’s high standards of quality and responsibility.
BASI, S.A. has been the distributor of Lacoste in Spain since 1962 for the main product categories of clothing, footwear, and leather goods.
BASI, S.A. initiated the project to implement the Lacoste.es e-commerce portal, aiming to provide a new marketing channel for Lacoste products to all its customers in Spain through the internet.
To properly manage the content of the articles that would be part of this portal, it was necessary to implement a product management system, commonly called PIM (Product Information Management).
When we talk about PIM, we refer to processes and technologies focused on the centralized management of product information, with special attention to the data needed to market and sell products through one or more distribution channels (images, item attributes, integration of sources of different origin, etc.). PIM serves as a central set of product data that can be used to feed consistent, product-linked information.
To undertake a project of this nature, it is proposed to utilize open-source technology, which eliminates licensing costs. This will be completed with a customized integrated development for exporting articles in XML format to the e-commerce portal.
Over the years, the open-source community has evolved significantly in various technological fields, and it can now be stated that there are open-source alternatives with proven technological reliability. Currently, the widespread use of open-source applications is evident in large companies and their business environments, where it is common to find ecosystems comprising both proprietary and open-source environments that are integrated and interoperable.
The functions developed for this project can be summarized as follows:
Product management: product maintenance, status management, attribute management, categorization management (families-subfamilies), season management, collection management, color management, and icon management.
Image management: bulk uploading of images, automatic product assignment, extended image viewer, image reordering, and logging of uploading results.
ERP and e-commerce integration: integration with Infor M3 ERP for models, prices, and stock, as well as exporting the complete model, along with images, to Trilogi’s Logicommerce platform.
Notifications: notification system to users (export/import) and tracking of PIM-related actions.
User management: maintenance of user accounts, role assignment, and permissions management.
The PIM product management application developed by our company, completely customized, has enabled the establishment of a centralized product management system, greatly facilitating the implementation of the lacoste.com portal.
As the omnichannel strategy becomes increasingly prevalent in fashion companies, the PIM solution has multiple applications beyond those related to e-commerce management.
The PIM solution serves as the bridge between the ERP and e-commerce systems, requiring a high level of flexibility and adaptability. This is because ERP and e-commerce solutions typically operate on standardized models with predefined data structures, rules, and restrictions that must be adhered to.
Therefore, in this scenario, the PIM solution provides with the necessary flexibility to meet the requirements for efficient product management in e-commerce effectively and efficiently, without relying heavily on specific developments on the ERP application side.
Since its implementation, BASI has continuously enhanced the PIM functionalities, achieving consistently positive results.
