Communicating in real time between Chile and Spain

Case study

ABBA Hoteles S.A.

ABBA Hoteles S.A. is a Spanish hotel chain founded in 1999. Currently, it operates hotels in Spain, Andorra, Germany, and Chile. The chain’s philosophy is to provide a comfortable and satisfying stay for its guests, with a strong emphasis on the quality of services and customer service. In short, ABBA Hoteles stands out for the quality of its services and customer service, with a focus on sustainability and corporate social responsibility.

Project challenges

ABBA Hoteles acquired two hotels in Chile, specifically in Santiago de Chile and Puerto Montt. Initially, when such acquisitions are made, call traffic between Spain and the destination country, in this case Chile, tends to be high and comes with a significant cost. This is because international calls of this nature are typically not covered by local telephone plans. To address this, an integration was implemented to enable extensions located in Chile to communicate with the ABBA Hoteles central office in Barcelona.

Project description

ABBA Hoteles headquarters already had an Innovaphone IP system in place. To address the challenges that arose, an extension of the existing central installation was implemented. This solution allowed for the installation of external extensions, enabling cost-free internal calls between Chile and Barcelona.

The following diagram shows the layout of all the elements

Two Innovaphone IP0011 Gateway have been implemented in the ABBA headquarters project in Barcelona. One of the gateways serves as the central PBX for the entire system, while the other functions as a Turn Server and Reverse Proxy.

Results

In Spain, the system works flawlessly, providing exceptional sound quality and charging calls as local calls, thanks to the implementation of the Reverse Proxy. Functionally, the staff at the hotels in Santiago de Chile or Puerto Montt only need to dial the desired extension to establish a local call with their called party in Spain. After over a year since its launch, the system has been operational at 100% delivering a standard of quality and reliability of the highest level.
